Tools of the trade

Here you go my friends.  Just a few tools of the trade I use for development and design.  Many are free.

Graphic design

Youzign – The easiest to use and most professional graphic design tools I’ve ever used.  Amazing.  I use this to design all my graphics.  Try it FREE for 14 days.

Gimp – Free open source graphic editor.  I’m actually using Youzign more these days but it is always nice to have.

Blender – This is an amazing 3D animation and graphic design tool.  Totally free!  There is a steep learning curve and you will need to look for tutorials on Youtube to get started.  For example I designed this room for our virtual Atomy Masters center and used OBS Project to record it with me in it along with a green screen.

Video and Streaming

OBS Project – Free, open source software for live streaming and recording.   Use this to record your screen and/or make presentations.  It you need green screen equipment to do what I did here in this virtual room I got mine on Amazon for a great price.

Business

MileIQ – MileIQ is an automatic mileage tracker that logs your business miles for taxes. Get the most out of your business, charity, or medical mileage.

Office

OpenOffice – This is a free alternative to the Microsoft Office Suite.  Apache OpenOffice is the leading open-source office software suite for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics, databases and more. It is available in many languages and works on all common computers. It stores all your data in an international open standard format and can also read and write files from other common office software packages.  It can be downloaded and used completely free of charge for any purpose.

Programming

Microsoft Visual Studio Community 2015 – Everything you need to build and deploy your app on any platform for FREE.

B4x – If you would like to start learning to develop an app for Android, iOS or on Windows in Java this is a great simple development system. B4J is Free.

Genymotion – Google’s Android emulator is terribly slow. This one from Genymotion is the one to use. It is free for Individuals so be sure to select that option.

VirtualBox – Presently, VirtualBox runs on Windows, Linux, Macintosh, and Solaris hosts and supports a large number of guest operating systems including but not limited to Windows (NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10), DOS/Windows 3.x, Linux (2.4, 2.6, 3.x and 4.x), Solaris and OpenSolaris, OS/2, and OpenBSD. Genymotion uses VirtualBox and this is great to have different OS’s on your computer for testing and isolating things that won’t infect your system. I personally run my development software in its own Virtual Windows 7 environment. For one it makes it easy to backup the entire system because it is just one file to copy over to a backup drive and another if my computer ever does get infected with a virus it won’t get into the virtual windows and vice versa.

Hosting

HostGator – There are many hosting companies out there but finding one with good service and support can be challenging.   Through the years I’ve used many but one that I really like is HostGator.  Just be careful of all the extras they try to market you.  Of course you can easily install WordPress which is everyone’s #1 website creator.  I recommend the Shared Business Plan because it comes with Private SSL and Private IP.  I also recommend getting your domain name from NameSilo below.  If you do sign up for the Shared Business hosting plan that comes with a free Private SSL:  When you start your cPanel they will show you options to purchase an SSL.  It wasn’t easy to find but here is the link so you can get the free one that should be included with your account.

Domain Names

NameSilo – I’ve given up on the games that GoDaddy plays.  I’ve been moving all my domain names over to NameSilo.  Their price is $8.99 and that includes Private Whois which is really important because without it you will receive phone calls, emails and all sort of spam.  No thank you!  GoDaddy no longer offers discounts for renewals so they will charge $14.99 each year.  NameSilo is the same $8.99 per year.  Very good deal and their service and website is very good.  Coupon Code for $1 off: promocode1

Instant Messenger

WowApp – I love WowApp.  It is free to use just like all the others and as you use it you earn money.  Sweet.  Over time you just might see commissions coming in from all around the world earning you some good money for just using an app.  Plus if you did use the optional paid calling their rates are about 5x less than Skype.

Services and Marketing

GetResponse – GetResponse is a complete email marketing solution. It provides turnkey newsletter publishing and hosting features, as well as unlimited follow-up autoresponders to deliver information to your subscribers and convert them to paying customers.

RocketResponder – Email Marketing Automation by RocketResponder makes it easy to create and send emails that get great results to grow your business. Start now, it’s free for 30 days then only $20 per month.

Sociocaster – I’m finding this tool and service to really help with increasing my traffic from Facebook and Twitter.  Click on the link then video to see what this can do for you.  I would say that anyone that anyone wanting to get traffic from Facebook or Twitter really should get this.

Affiliate Programs & Network Marketing

Atomy – Provides daily essential products at the lowest possible price.  People can also earn a residual income as they share Atomy with others through Network Marketing.  Free to join.  No starter kits or autoship.  Just order great products online at good prices.

WowApp – I love WowApp.  It is free to use just like all the others and as you use it you earn money.  Sweet.  Over time you just might see commissions coming in from all around the world earning you some money for just using an app.  Plus if you did use the optional paid calling their rates are about 5x less than Skype.
